Tafadzwa Shamba and Senior Makore Must Not Be Released from Chikurubi Maximum Prison

Tafadzwa Shamba and Senior Makore were convicted in connection with the murder of Tapiwa Makore—a child whose life was taken in a horrific act of violence.

Tapiwa was slaughtered like a goat for money, with his head reportedly intended for sale to Mozambican traditional healers. The brutality of this crime is impossible to ignore. We must never forget the child who was killed, or allow attention to shift from the gravity of what happened.

We must stop glamourising convicted murderers or giving them platforms that turn them into celebrities. Tapiwa was the victim. The public’s focus should remain on him, his family, and the devastating loss they have endured.

The police and investigators deserve recognition for their work in bringing those responsible before the courts. Their efforts matter—but it is the conviction, not accusation alone, that establishes guilt.

Murder and armed robbery are exceptionally grave crimes. No parole or release should be given to murderers and armed robbers in Zimbabwe. The safety of the public and the lasting impact of these crimes must remain paramount. The community must not forget what happened to Tapiwa.
