SA Employment Services Amendment Bill [B16–2026] Promotes Xenophobia and Exclusion of Foreigners

The Employment Services Amendment Bill [B16–2026], which intends to fine South African employers of undocumented domestic workers, is immoral. It promotes xenophobia and the assertion that foreign workers are less human.

The poor must be allowed to work.

While we oppose this Bill, we urge the South African government and its counterparts in Southern Africa to improve their economies to lessen the burden on the South African economy.

But this Bill must not be signed into law in South Africa. It is inimical to South African Ubuntu and compassion.

If signed into law, this Bill is going to harm refugees and other permit holders who struggle to renew their permits due to Home Affairs backlogs. Furthermore, it is going to create enmity towards South Africa in the region, which will harm South African interests in the future.

The value of human life does not depend on documents, which only the poor and suffering struggle to get.
