In a recent development, Zimbabwean lawyer Brian Kagoro was prevented from entering Kenya and was forcibly removed from a flight bound for Nairobi at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Kenyan government accused Kagoro of funding anti-government protests through the Open Society Foundation—a claim Kagoro vehemently denies.
Despite the removal, the Kenyan High Court had previously issued an order ensuring that Kagoro should not be prevented from entering Kenya. His detention and deportation sparked widespread support from human rights activists and organizations across Kenya, who condemned what they described as an unjustified act of censorship.
Kagoro’s case has drawn significant attention, highlighting ongoing concerns over freedom of movement and political repression in the region. Many believe that the move against him was politically motivated, aimed at silencing dissent and suppressing voices critical of the government.
