Mother in Vereeniging Faces Charges for Selling Son for R75,000

Keneilwe Shalaba has returned to the Vereeniging Magistrate Court, facing serious accusations of human trafficking after allegedly selling her two-year-old son, Kutlwano, to a Sangoma for R75,000 (approximately $4,178.90).

This shocking incident highlights a disturbing trend of moral decline within South Africa. Kutlwano went missing in November of last year, and his body was later discovered buried near a dumping site. On the same day he disappeared, the R75,000 was deposited into Shalaba’s bank account—a chilling indication of the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. A Sangoma has also been arrested in connection with this tragic case.

We cannot remain silent in the face of human trafficking. Children must never be treated as commodities. If we do not take decisive action against this heinous crime, our nation may continue to suffer the deep scars of poverty and violence. The implementation of the death penalty in South Africa is crucial to deter human trafficking and other violent offenses.
