A farm attack near Rouxville in the Free State province of South Africa resulted in the death of a farmer and the kidnapping of his wife over the weekend. Three suspects have been arrested.
According to statistics from agricultural organizations, violence against farmers is a serious problem in South Africa.
There have been reports of one farm attack per week on average. The exact number of farmers is difficult to determine, but estimates suggest there are less than 30,000 commercial farmers remaining in the country.
This is a tragic event, and violence against any individual is unacceptable. The kidnapping of the farmer’s wife adds another layer of trauma to this situation. We commend the South African police for their swift action in arresting suspects.
