Ido not support violence nor the act of fighting violence with violence. Recent events in South Africa underscore the devastating impact of hatred and lawlessness, and it is crucial we address these issues with wisdom and restraint.
It is alleged that Douglas Thusini, a member of the MK political party, was returning home from evicting Somali tuckshop owners when he was shot dead outside his house in Ntuzuma, KwaMashu. While the motive for his murder remains unconfirmed, there are suspicions that it may be linked to his anti-immigrant activities.
Douglas engaged in actions that were unlawful and morally wrong—participating in violence and xenophobic activities against foreign nationals. Such behavior is not only illegal but also harmful to social harmony and progress. His actions contributed to the division and suffering within our communities.
His son was deeply hurt to see his father lying lifeless outside their home. The boy called out to him, “Dad,” but sadly, his father was gone. This tragic loss is a stark reminder of the destructive consequences violence inflicts on families and communities.

If his actions involved illegal eviction of tuckshop owners, the lawful course of action would have been to report him to the police, not to take justice into one’s own hands. Even if the rule of law in South Africa is strained, citizens must continue to report crimes and press authorities to uphold justice lawfully.
South Africans engaging in anti-immigrant violence must stop. Such actions cause immense disharmony, suffering, and destabilize our society. The consequences extend beyond immediate harm—these acts threaten the economic stability of South Africa and undermine the dignity and safety of both foreigners and locals.
Foreign nationals in South Africa have suffered greatly. Many have lost peace, dignity, and property. Some have been forced to separate from loved ones and endure hardship. Violence only deepens these wounds, creating more pain and division.
It is imperative that we, as a nation, reject violence and embrace peaceful, lawful means to address our grievances. Let us remember:
“If you live by the sword, you die by the sword.”
Peaceful dialogue and lawful actions are the only sustainable path forward.
Let us work together to build a society rooted in peace, respect, and justice. Only then can South Africa truly prosper and heal from the wounds of hatred and violence.
